A real person to be sure, but something else as well. TJ and Nicole don’t “hang around together” – she met him once and he became infatuated as kids do. Hesher doesn’t hang around the school, he shows up when TJ is in trouble. Either to help or not, we don’t know. The only unsettling thing for me was the junkyard kid and his yellow convertible; he seemed to be about 14 years old to me, in the same school as TJ whom I thought was about 12, yet he drives a car. Nicole is clearly out of school; why she doesn’t have roommates is beyond me; if you work 15 hours a week at minimum wage you would never have your own apartment, never mind being “short” on cash. It would be impossible. We’re not meant to know all the backgrounds of everyone here, though. It’s what it is. And yeah, JGL looked scummy-hot. He pulled it off. Looking bemused about everything except Grandma’s death.
