Dear Puffin
Given that I’ve been either sick or locked in the library for the last 3 weeks, my thoughts turn inexorably to the two things I miss most about life on the outside. First to beer, of which I am not drinking enough and second to all the TV I am missing. To sustain me in my darkest hour I have turned to my ancient and venerable collection of beer ads saved in my favorites on Youtube. So here are the 20 greatest beer commercials of all time, according to me, ranked roughly from good to greatest. (I am intentionally excluding the Most Interesting Man in the World because…well…it just wouldn’t be fair. He is in a class by himself. Which he also teaches)
Everyone probably remembers this one:
This one is only funny retrospectively. Because now I cannot see this without thinking of Robin Cherbotsky:
The Bubble Boys! These were my absolute favorite ads when I was a kid:
Bud Ice Penguin:
This is the least Wes Anderson-y thing Wes Anderson has ever produced:
Quite offensive:
More Bubble Boys! Let’s just admit it. These barely have anything to do with beer. But ze leetle french canadian accents are so cute!
The rest are going after the jump because the videos are making the page slow to load.
This one is clever:
Dirty Guinness:
I’ve never even heard of this beer, but the ad is great:
OK, this isn’t a beer ad, but booze is booze is booze. And frankly George Clooney’s eyebrows alone are funny enough to earn a spot:
And the second one:
Stella Artois has a great way of hitting the balance between funny and sweet:
RON FUCKING PEARLMAN? Why yes:
This is just hilarious:
Stella Artois strikes yet again. Their ad budget must be insane:
This one makes the cut because I want to know what the casting process for the ad was like. How the hell did they explain this to the actor…..
This is another one that gains retroactive awesomeness- I never realized it before but Billy Dee Williams is CLEARLY the father of the Old Spice Guy. Proof:
Possibly the most charming beer ad of all time:
Viking Beer. I love it for its absurdity:
Cheers
MacGuffin

I am very glad you included the Big Add. That add is amazing.
In regards to the Flashdance add, have you seen flashdance?? Seriously go check it out
I’m disappointed to see only two aussie beer adds made your cut. If there is one thing aussies do well it’s beer (the fosters crap we export is just our leftovers, the good stuff doesn’t leave the country
)

Auughhh that makes me miss Australia. Its been entirely too long since Ive been down there.
Also, I know this is weird, but what ever happened with you guys and Sleepy? I was totally creepy and started reading your blog after I found you thru the bogus referrers thing, but I guess you’ve locked those entries. Which is prolly wise, but it was fun to think about someone else’s drama.
